Creating Home-School Partnerships

Home-School PartnershipsThis three to five hour training offers key guidelines to participants for successful home-school partnerships, as well as best practices, while learning to overcome barriers to parental involvement. The training culminates in an initial development of a plan to enhance the home-school partnership efforts in our community.

Countless evidence suggests that children whose parents are consistently involved in their education are shown to achieve more, regardless of socioeconomic status, ethnic background, or the parents’ education level. Students have higher grades, and test scores, better attendance, and complete homework more consistently. In addition, student behaviors such as alcohol use, violence, and anti-social behavior decrease as parent involvement increases. Students with involved parents also have higher graduation rates and greater enrollment in post-secondary education.

A recent survey of participants who completed the Creating Home-School Partnerships Training revealed that over 80% of teachers reported increased parental involvement in their school as a result of the program. In addition, both parents and teacher demonstrated a greater awareness of how to increase home-school partnerships and become more involved in the school community. Teachers also indicated positive steps taken by the school in keeping parents informed of school activities.
