Parents

Children today are faced with many difficult and often life-threatening decisions regarding drugs, alcohol, crime, and violence. They face increasingly higher and higher academic standards. They live in a world of bullying, cyber-bullying, and predators. The future of our society depends on how we raise the children of today.

We know that when parents communicate better with their children, children thrive. When parent feel better about themselves as parents, children thrive. Children are more apt to stay in school, off the streets, off drugs, and away from destructive behaviors when communication with their parents is active, ongoing and effective.

Strong Parenting is the Common Theme

  • Children who are involved in satisfying relationships with their parents are more likely to be academically motivated and engaged, and achieve academic success.
  • Youth who perceive their parents as caring, value their parents’ opinions about serious decisions, feel that they can talk to their parents about problems, and are less likely to use alcohol or drugs, and attempt suicide.
  • Parents who know about their teen’s activities, friends, and behaviors and monitor them in age-appropriate ways, have teens who do better socially and are less apt to engage in risky physical and sexual behaviors.
  • Children who have no relationship with their father are twice as likely to drop out of school.
